Amazon Tour Guide

The Day in the life of a Tour Guide

A tour guide in the Amazon is an interesting job because of the unique sties and animals that you see throughout the day. The Amazon is a vast and curious forest with trees that range from 5 to hundreds of feet. The rain forest is located in South America and stretches for millions of square kilometers. The forest is mostly located in Brazil and is the largest forest in America. The job of a tour guide is one of responsibility and understanding, the responsible part is knowing that you have people to take care of and know what their limits are for nature and to keep them safe at all times but let them experience the wild life.  The understanding is that nature can be your friend and also your enemy because if you do not know what you are doing than you could get hurt or even lose your life. There are many dangerous animals like black caiman crocodiles, jaguars, cougars, and anacondas and a tour guide must know the places where they live and avoid them to keep the group of tourists safe while showing them the exotic animals like parrots, Howler Monkey, Sloth, Spider Monkey, Toucan, Dolphins.

A tour guide has one of the most exciting jobs in the world because all of the wild life he gets to see and explore. even though he may go out into the Forrest hundreds of times there are always new animals and plants that you have never seen before and that is exciting for anybody who likes the wilderness."To date, at least 40,000 plant species, 427 mammals (e.g. jaguar, anteater and giant otter), 1,300 birds (e.g. harpy eagle, toucan and hoatzin), 378 reptiles (e.g. boa), more than 400 amphibians (e.g. dart poison frog) and around 3,000 freshwater fishes1 including the piranha have been found in the Amazon"(WWF). There is a vast amount of wild life to explore and only a small percentage of the Amazon Rain Forrest has been explored."These numbers are dwarfed by estimates for the smaller life forms: just in Brazil, between 96,660 and more than 100,000 invertebrate species have been described by scientists"(WWF). Animals like the finger monkey had been discovered recently and new animals and plants are being discovered daily.

The tour guides day starts at 8 am, he wakes up in a resort and plans out the day. He starts by looking at the map of the different paths he can take his tourists on. He then sees how many tours he is going on today and how many people are in each group of the tour. The skill level of the guests are also important because this will decide which path they are ready to take, and the more experience the tourists have with the jungle and nature the further they can explore in the Amazon. Around 1030 the guide will meet up with the group he is going to explore with and have breakfast with them. Tour guide talks to them for a little bit and gets to know the basic things about each person so he knows how much experience they have. Before the journey into the forest he tells them that the jungle is a dangerous place and that they should not touch any animals or plants. They then set off to explore at 12 and this will last several hours, the guests get to experience the wild life along with creatures and animals they have not seen before.
